Earl Grant - Just For A Thrill (Instrumental favorites)

I purchased this album for only a dollar a few weeks ago. I gave it a listen a few days ago and had to make a recording. I figured the music would be good, since I knew Grant was a very talented musical performer. What I didn't expect was for the fidelity to be so stunning. It sounded like Earl had a small Jazz combo performing right in front of me. The recordings had less distortion than on his major label CD compilation. The record doesn't say who produced and engineered but they did a superb job. He has a wonderful small combo on this album, and I'm betting the saxophone work is by Plas Johnson, since he worked on a previous Grant album. This album really gives the feeling of being in a cool bar very late at night. He does mainly old standards, but gives them a nice touch of hipness. I used a Stanton turntable and cartridge and recorded on a Roland Edirol. I gave it some equalization to boost the low end and soften the highs a bit, but didn't use noise reduction. I am offering it in both FLAC and 320 KBPS MP3 formats. I hope you will enjoy this as much as I am. Earl was a rare talent, and has been unfairly forgotten by many of us. I also stretched 2 of the songs and included those versions as well.

Hi Eclectic! This is a great find for a $1.00 and you've done a great job with the up, especially without needing any noise reduction! The surprise on this one, for me anyway, was the song entitled, 'The Sweetest Sounds' which has a jazzy latin flavor! Love the whole LP! Thank you very much! :)

Great LP by Earl Grant. I have about 3,000 LP's myself. How does one go about uploading music here?

You find a file sharing / storing site that you like. Upload the file to them and share the link here. I'm not good at detailed explanation, but I hope that helps.

Thanks Steve for your help. How do you make an album you upload have just one link? When I upload to megalink.com it gives a link for each song I upload. Thanks again for your help.

I think I figured it out. lol But any suggestions will be appreciated.

It sounds like you need to put each song in to a file folder, and then upload that folder to megalink. If that doesn't work you may have to compress the file into a winrar or winzip file.

Thanks again Steve for your help. I did insert a link for one LP, but I have decided to upload my LP's in video form. That way anyone can listen to LP right on the blog. I am willing to send someone mp3 files if they want to burn to CD. I will be uploading a lot of different types of music. You have a great blog, Steve. I really like your Earl Grant upload.
You did a great job with the transfer to CD. I do sound restoration on most of the LP's I transfer to CD. Brad

Glad you got things working Brad and thanks for the kind words about the Earl Grant album.

Steve, are you using a scanner or digital camera for your LP photos? They look really sharp. Brad

I use a camera and scanner, it just depends on the album. For this album I used the best picture I could download.

Hi MegaMusic thanks for the comments, I don't know if I'll try 24 bit rips to DVD any time soon. My ears are still happy enough with 16 bit. I am trying to find software to consider doing 16-20 bit super-mapping like Sony used to do.

What I meant was uploading LP's to your blog in a video format. It would be easy to do with windows movie maker. I always record in 24 bits with Audacity. If course when you burn to CD it is 16 bits. I use Wave Corrector to clean the sound of Lp's.

I'll think about it, let me know when you start posting these Earl Grant LPs I'd love to get some more of his music.

Steve, I have the first Earl Grant LP uploaded. The sound quality seems to be very good uploading with the video format. This way it is possible to upload out-of-print stuff without using a link.
